Same Carat, Different Price?

Aynı Karat, Farklı Fiyat?

Why a solitaire, five-stone ring and tennis bracelet can share a total carat weight but not the same price.

Total weight is not the whole story

Carat measures diamond weight. On a solitaire, the stated carat may belong to one centre stone. On a five-stone ring or tennis bracelet, it may be the combined weight of many stones. A single large diamond is generally rarer than the same total weight divided among smaller stones.

Stone count changes the comparison

Imagine two tennis bracelets with the same total carat weight. If one uses fewer stones, each diamond is larger. If the other uses more stones, each diamond is smaller. Even with similar colour, clarity and cut, the bracelet with larger individual diamonds can carry a higher stone value.

Baguette designs create a different visual scale

Baguette-cut diamonds distribute weight differently and are often combined in architectural arrangements. A design made from several baguettes can cover a broad surface and look more dramatic than a round solitaire of the same total weight. That does not make the stones equivalent; construction, stone count and individual size still matter.

Compare like with like

When comparing prices, ask whether the figure is centre-stone weight or total diamond weight. Then compare individual stone sizes, colour, clarity, cut, certification, metal weight and workmanship.
