What GIA and HRD Antwerp reports identify, and how to match a document to its diamond.
Independent grading
For stones sold with an international laboratory report, the product page states the relevant laboratory. GIA and HRD Antwerp evaluate diamonds independently and record measurements and quality characteristics on a numbered report.
What the report contains
Depending on the report type, you may see carat weight, shape and measurements, colour, clarity, cut-related grades, polish, symmetry and fluorescence. These entries describe the examined loose diamond; they are not a warranty of future market value.
Report number and laser inscription
Many certified stones carry a microscopic laser inscription on the girdle. Its number should match the printed or digital report. The inscription is read with magnification and does not affect ordinary appearance.
Product certificate and laboratory report
Some jewellery is supplied with a brand or product certificate rather than a separate international laboratory report. Always check the wording on the individual product page so you know exactly which document accompanies the piece.
